How to Successfully Sell Your Plane: The 4 "P's" PDF Print E-mail

Want to get the most for your airplane in the shortest period of time?  Then understanding — and applying — the following principles is essential.

PRESENTATION
(Also known as "Curb Appeal").  How are your plane's cosmetics?  Is the paint scratched and dull?  Is the interior dirty and unappealing?  Or have you waxed the exterior, cleaned the interior, and made the airplane attractive and inviting?  How are your logs?  Spend time getting them in order.  Buyers want to see ... and buy ... airplanes that exude TLC.

PROMOTION
How are you advertising your aircraft?  Is it in the most prominent locations?  Are you giving buyers the information they want or are you playing "20 Questions" with them?  Don't make them work or guess as to the features and quality of your plane.  Promoting your plane the right way takes time and effort.  It's easier for a buyer to move on to the next plane (and yes, there are many out there just as good as yours) than it is for them to beg and plead for honest information.

PRICING
Your price must reflect the reality of today's market or your plane will not sell.  In fact, an unrealistic asking price will cause the phone to remain silent.  And, with the current buyer's market, the first one or two offers are usually the best.

PERFORMANCE
How are you, the seller, performing?  Are you responding to all leads, answering questions in a timely manner, and keeping interest level high?  Or are you taking days to call back and providing only limited details.  Even if you've excelled at the other "P's", if you're not performing for the buyer, all the leads in the world will not guide you to a sale.  Quantitative and qualitative follow-through is an absolute must.
